Nature and heritage

The Hérault Valley boasts a quite unique natural and historic heritage. From the lowest foothills of the Larzac plateau, with its dramatic scenery of limestone boulders, like so many ancient ruins, to the green plains where wine is grown, the visitor stands amazed by the diversity of landscapes to be found within just a few miles.

The gorges of the Hérault river, the medieval village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, the Clamouse cave (Grotte de la Clamouse) and the Devil’s Bridge, the wine-growing plain with its serried ranks of vines : a few words that sum up the wonder inspired by these places. But the most important part is still to come.

The Hérault Valley’s doors are open; all you have to do is to walk through them – you don’t even need a key !
