Cirques de Mourèze
The Cirque de Mourèze, the dolomitic landscape 8 km from Clermont-l’Hérault, offers a spectacular insight into the process of water erosion on the rock. The giant grooves created in the rocks bring to mind a field of ruins, hence their description as "ruiniform" reliefs and as a "chaos" of dolomitic forms. The spectacular animal forms that have been created as a result have made this a fantastical place that fascinates visitors.
Waymarked footpaths offer an opportunity to explore the public part of the site (to which access is free) and to climb as far as the Mont Liausson escarpment (526 m), which overlooks the Lac du Salagou. You can make a quick visit to the private area of the site, the Parc des Courtinals, and it offers a view over the whole of the cirque from the viewpoint. The enchanting little village of Mourèze lies nestled at the entrance to the cirque..
