Montpellier
The town of Montpellier is over a thousand years old, and its history is characterised by both an exuberant attitude to life and a thirst for knowledge. This a large, bright, lively town with 235,000 residents, of whom 60,000 are students, with busy, colourful, sunlit terraces and a definite taste for culture, dance, music, theatre and architecture…
To get a real feel for the town, be sure to visit colourful, densely packed old Montpellier, with its Renaissance residences with a Tuscan feel to them, the classic 18th century Peyrou gardens and the Place de la Comédie, and the neoclassical Antigone district.
Then take a stroll along the Lez towards the Hôtel de région, the administrative offices of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, to the Port Marianne, an urban river port that allows the Mediterranean to be Montpellier's long-term partner!
