Circulades and Castellas
“Circulades” and “castellas” are typical of the villages in the Hérault Valley.

These townscapes arose in the middle of the medieval period. They were perched high, on elevated sites which offered a good all-round view, either in places where there had been no previous building or on redeveloped existing fortifications.
