Garrigues and forest

The Séranne

The Séranne: A limestone mountain whose highest point is the Roc Blanc (942 m), characterised by a wide variety of landscapes, including a broad expanse of meadowland, startling rock formations shaped like ruins, narrow valleys and small plateaus.

The garrigue, the woods of white oaks and box, the forest of Salzmann pines and the matoral, principally consisting of cistus, broom and Kermes oaks, together make up a mosaic of different environments.

The goat breeders now living and working in "La Font du Griffe" and the over-wintering of sheep and cattle in the hamlet of Les Lavagnes is revitalising the area. The region's built and archaeological heritage has been renovated, the forest has been provided with fire-fighting equipment and numerous footpaths have been reopened and signposted (including the GR 74 long-distance footpath, green lanes and circular routes for shorter walks (PR). A stopover gîte and a number of group gîtes welcome nature lovers. This is a fragile environment, so please respect it.
