Exploring the medieval village

The Hermitage of Notre Dame du Lieu Plaisant

Founded in the 14th century by the layman Jean Albes, it was occupied by hermits in charge of the Abbey hospital from the 15th century onwards.

In honour of their devotion, residents of the village have formed a procession to walk to the Hermitage on Easter Monday since the plague epidemic in the 16th century. Villagers have taken part in a second procession, on the first Sunday in October, since the terrible floods of 1723, to combat the capriciousness of the Verdus stream.

Directions: from the Place de la Liberté, take rue du Bout du Monde. Just before the last house, turn right onto the GR74 walking route, marked with red and white signs. Come back along the same path. Allow for a 3-hour round trip.
