Exploring the medieval village
Les Fenestrettes on the Pilgrimage Route of Santiago de Compostela
The Chemin des Fenestrettes clings to the steep cliffs at the heart of the Cirque du Bout du Monde.
This mule track, linking the Gellone Valley to Larzac, benefited from some very worthy efforts on the part of the men who, in the 18th century, constructed a sort of masonry corbelling that seems to launch itself into the void and makes it possible to climb up the rock. Today the Chemin des Fenestrettes is used by pilgrims walking to Santiago de Compostela.
Directions: from the village square, take rue du Bout du Monde. Just before the football stadium, turn left onto the GR653 walking route, marked with red and white signs. Come back along the same path. Allow for a 3-hour round trip.
